Fintech & Billing Solutions
Conference
March 27th | MADRID

Madrid
The fintech industry in Spain has been growing rapidly over the past few years,
positioning the country as one of the key players in the European fintech
landscape.
Geographically, regulatory, consumer adoption, and digital banking are part of
the reasons to work in Madrid. Spain is home to a thriving fintech startup
ecosystem, especially in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.
Spain’s regulatory environment is becoming increasingly supportive of fintech
innovation. In 2020, Spain introduced its regulatory sandbox, which allows
fintech companies to test their products in a controlled environment without the
full regulatory burden. This has encouraged the growth of new financial products
and services. The Bank of Spain regulates fintech companies involved in activities
like payments and digital currencies, ensuring that they adhere to the same
compliance standards as traditional financial institutions.
As part of the EU, Spain follows many of the EU’s fintech-related regulations,
including PSD2 (Payment Services Directive) and GDPR, which affect payments,
data privacy, and security.
Spanish consumers are becoming increasingly comfortable with digital banking
and payment solutions, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Spaniards
now use apps for banking, investing, and even managing their insurance.
